Today I learned an appropriate new term. The term is: 'gigaphoric' i.e. extra-extraordinarily europhic, after the term 'gigabyte' which adds up to a thousand-thousand-something bytes, which are little thingy-majigs of data in a very large universe of thingy-majigs. I would link to the story in the New York Time Magazine here, but you would have to get a subscription to see the bloody thing on the Net and, needless to say, I don't have that subscription - I prefer the big thing that I have to keep folding and cursing as I drink grapefruit juice in the sun. Anyway, the reason that gigaphoric is appropriate is because that I was what was injected into me with a burst - not of heroine - but of spring today.
It was beautiful to see young, carefree college kids running around in their virgin white and brown and sandy skin, catching frisbees with practiced valor and attempting to be studious with all that flesh about. Palo Alto is beautiful in the springtime - it felt like vacation time - kids and dogs were everywhere - it's almost as if they'd been hidden away from the meanness that is winter, and now come out to run and jump and tickle you with piercing fingers. Ah, how sentimental is H at this cusp in life.
I had a zuid afrikaanse partyjie on Friday night and friends came. We ate lamb bredie, ratatouille (not South African, but there are no vegetarian South African recipes), mielie pap and Amarula malva pudding with Amy's home-made ice-cream. Zannette even made her famous South African chocolate chip cookies! It was a grand affair :)
