Women outnumber men in South African poll

South Africans participated in their third democratic national election on Wednesday. We had a 70% turnout. Women outnumbered the men in terms of registration figures and the European Union, Commonwealth and United Nations declined to send observers because they said that they had no fears regarding the smooth running of the election. The Mail and Guardian has a great interactive guide of the elections on their site

There's been some concern over the ANC DP polarisation. According to independent analyst, Aubrey Matshiqi, 'It appeared as if by the end of the vote tallying, the ANC would emerge with an "absolute majority of the majority" and the DA an "absolute majority of the minority"'.
